Meet THE TEAM
Senior Consultant Nick Francis is an award-winning engineer, with an impressive track record of innovation and leadership. Having served for 16 years as an Officer in the Royal Engineers he is acutely aware that complex problems require more than just technical solutions and is passionate about applying leadership skills and behavioural science to unlock the potential of individuals and teams.
During his military career Nick served on operations in the UK, Africa, The Balkans, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and commanded a Squadron of over 200 soldiers. He won the “Operational Engineering Award” for his design and construction of emergency Ebola hospitals in Sierra Leone, and his innovative designs for emergency flood defences saved the town of Romsey from catastrophic flooding. As a specialist in blast and ballistic loading played a leading role in protecting military camps in Afghanistan from very large vehicle borne bombs.
On leaving the Army Nick worked for two years in a technical design role at a specialist engineering company, conducting complex seismic design for nuclear rated components, and establishing numerous new high-profile clients. Since 2018 Nick has led the development of education and training programmes for the Get It Right Initiative, addressing the underlying systemic and behavioural causes of errors, which cost UK industry £21Bn each year.
Nick holds masters degrees from Durham University and Cranfield University, and is a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Manager. He now splits his time between lecturing in engineering and management at the University of Sheffield, running behavioural change programmes for the construction industry, and management consultancy.
